Is there an easier way to sign up students at my school?
Yes - Digication can work with your school to set up data import to automatically create and maintain accounts for your school's users. Contact us for more details.

How can I get more people at my school to use Digication?
One way is to put us in touch with an administrator or decision-maker at your school who can set up data import or let faculty know about Digication.

I want to put up materials for my class. Should I create an e-Portfolio or a Community?
You can do either - or both! Since e-Portfolios can be public, they are particularly useful if you want to share your materials with parents and other teachers, or if you don't want to create accounts for your students. Courses allow for a higher level of student discussion and course-specific utilities such as grading.

I want to showcase my student work. What are my options?
You can create an e-Portfolio for all your student work, and create pages for individual students or assignments. If you'd like, you can have your students sign up for Digication and add them as editors on the e-Portfolio Settings page. This way, they can add their own work and help you maintain the e-Portfolio.
Another option is to have your students sign up for Digication accounts and create their own e-Portfolios.

TECHNICAL

What do I need to use Digication?
Since Digication is on the web, you need a computer with an internet connection.
We recommend using one of the following browsers: IE6+, Safari 1.0+, FireFox 1.0+
For faculty and other enhanced functionality, we recommend you have the latest Flash player and JavaScript enabled.

Digication is hosted. Why? Can we host Digication on our own servers instead?
Our goal was to create a product that doesn't require the support of a technical department, so that it could be used by any school, no matter how small. We also want to make sure that your data is secure and backed up. In addition, by hosting it ourselves, there is only one version of Digication - no upgrades or installations. You are always using the latest version of Digication.

I'm trying to upload a big file and it's not working. How big a file can I upload?
10 megabytes

What are the storage and bandwidth limits?
For the School Edition, Digication currently allocates an average of 100MB multiplied by the amount of subscribe users. We find that most schools with 1,000 users or less do not need more than 2 GB of storage. Additional storage capacity can be purchased if needed. Please contact us if additional storage is needed.

HOMESCHOOLERS

What is a homeschool portfolio?
A homeschool portfolio is a collection of material to showcase your child's learning. A portfolio is a viable method to assess, both continually and annually, a student's academic progress. This approach helps both parent and student compare work objectively during the school year.

Why is a homeschool portfolio needed?
Some U.S. states require an annual assessment of homeschooled students. Parents can choose to either have their child tested or present a portfolio for review and acceptance. Keeping a homeschool portfolio not only helps to comply with the law but also aids parents and children in recording their progresses and accomplishments. A portfolio is also an important record for entry into school or college or obtaining a high school diploma.

What kind of material does a portfolio include?
There is no right or wrong way to create a portfolio. The materials contained in a portfolio are decided by the parents and child. Material chosen should be varied to reflect what the child has learned, experienced and accomplished. Suggested items to include are:

  1. A journal which notes activities and progress
  2. A list of resources such as books, computer software, games, toys and outside classes.
  3. Samples of the child's work including letters written to friends and family (photocopy these before they are sent), poems, stories, songs and other forms of creative writing, drawings, audio tapes of singing, talking, reading aloud, or playing a musical instrument, video tapes of a dramatic performance or musical talent, and any text book or workbook pages.
  4. Photos of field trips, artwork, projects and family life.
  5. Brochures and booklets from field trips and other activities.
  6. A list of books that the child has read. Include the title and author.
  7. Goals for the year.

Why use an e-Portfolio?
An e-Portfolio can be accessed by whom you choose - family members, other homeschoolers, and local school administrators if assessment is required. This is a great way to showcase you child's work.
